After installing an extra hard drive for storage my wifes computer did not work. I found out that I did not have enough watts to run all that was in there. I installed a new power supply which has a button to cut off power to the computer. This is fine and dandy and everything works now but the button on the front of the computer. She has a compaq presario 5000. Could I have burned up the button on the front of the computer trying to run everything with the 250 watts that I had? If so, is it hard to replace? Did I forget to hook something up with the new power supply? If so what is it? lol Since she is running me on her computer if I use the start/shut down option it shuts down automatically so the new power button is useless to use. If I use the other power button (on the power supply) it shuts down the computer improperly and we have to go through the scan disk and what not. Any help or advice in this matter would be appreciated.

Have you tried tracing the wires from the power switch to the motherboard? Make sure they're connected securely. If that doesn't work, remove these wires and short across the two jumpers that they're connected to. Shorting these jumpers should power the system on and off. If that doesn't work you may require a special power supply to have it function with your system.
