Hi! I'm wondering if my old hard drive would work if I switched it from Pentium 4 to AMD? (Changing computers but same harddrives). Do I have to reformat or anything? Thanks for the help.

You'll have to do a repair install of XP once you move the drive, so if you are moving from a branded (Dell/HP) to a different brand of machine and have an OEM installation cd, you may run into problems. If you have a Retail XP cd, this won't be an issue...Or if you have the correct installation cd for the "new" machine, you could reinstall windows.

Activation, on the other hand, may require a phone call to Microsoft. You won't know if that's the case until you register the installation with Microsoft.

Then there's the drivers...different hardware will require different drivers so you'll have to be prepared to round up all thiose you need.

In short, it sounds easy enough, but it could turn into a real can of worms on you.
