I've had problems with my Kodak EasyShare Software since they upgraded to the 6.0 version,

first it was just a few glitches and I used the repair option in Add/Remove programs to try to fix those problems, then it just got worse until eventually I couldn't open the software at all.

I've been cooresponding with their tech support for a couple of weeks and their last suggestion was what they call a "clean installation".

The steps are uninstall using add/remove programs, use their Clear Utility, go into program files and common files deleting Kodak files, then disk cleanup,

but the last suggestion they give is my question for you today, they say I need to go to task manager, the processes tab, and select all expcept explorer and choose End Task. Then reinstall the software.

I just am unsure of this, wouldn't this end all my security that's running in the background and/or any windows components? I'll have to go to their website to download the reinstall.

I dont' want to crash my pc. I don't always trust these tech people, the folks at HP lead me to use system restore once just to get a pre-installed program to working again. I didn't know what system restore would do at that time and we lost everything!!

So I'm hesitant to end all these processes that are running..... any advise on this or EasyShare Software would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help Keith,

I went through all your steps, went to their website and started the download got through the winzip, then got an error (Error Code 20x101x0x) that the installation could not complete.

So then I got out my old cd that came with my digital camera, it's like two versions old, but I tried it anyway, and it seemed to do a partial install. There were no shortcuts put on the desktop or anywhere for that matter, there's a couple read me files under the start menu/all programs/kodak. And Kodak is back in the Add/remove programs. But there's no way to open the program.

Any other ideas?

Use add / remove to uninstall what is there for Kodak

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD and Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

Download and install Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up

Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, which will take a few minutes and need a reboot. You should disable the antivirus programme to run this

Check the anti virus is running after the reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Install Kodak from the CD

...you need the XP CD...

Keith, all I have is the system recovery cd we made when we first got the computer, is that what you mean?

Run sfc /scannow, if it asks for a CD, insert the recovery CD, it will say if it is incorrect or continue the scan

If the recovery CD starts to load anything else, remove it from the drive

Keith,

Ok, went through all your steps:

on "Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up" it said "...one file could not be deleted as it was currently in use..."

on "Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up" it found and fixed 476 problems.

Installed Kodak from CD and it went through all the motions, said "Installation was successful, restart your computer to complete installation."

Restarted but still no good. No shortcuts, only the read me files in the start menu, there were three files put into the Recycling Bin: $Outgoing, $Staging, both of these are empty, but there was a third that I can't remember what the name was but it had the file EasyShareSetup in it so I clicked Restore, but still nothing.

Use add / remove to uninstall the Kodak software, run tune up registry clean up, try the file from the Kodak site now tune up has fixed errors

If no change, ask Kodak if they know why it won't install because I expect a number will have run in to the same thing

I have the same problem. I have not been able to use my Kodak Easy Share software since I installed an upgrade and then had to remove it after discovering that I had problems with the upgrade. Now it won't open at all. I do not have a Windows XP disc, I wasn't given one when I bought my computer. So any ideas about how to fix?(When I try to remove it from Program Files, it says it cannot remove) :)

I have been reading all the posts. When I try to open up my kodak easyshare, it says the program has quit running. What can I do to open the program? Is there a chance I will loose all of my photos if I have to unistall the program and reinstall???

Your photos are all stored in a folder - it should be in your Pictures folder, and titled Kodak or something similar (that's how it is on mine). Reinstalling shouldn't delete them, but you could make a copy of that folder and its contents. It's always a good idea to keep a backup of pictures, documents, etc., in case of a computer crash.

I had terrible trouble with my Kodak software, and was in the process of sorting it out when...... the flash on the actual camera malfunctioned.

Moral? I stay away from all Kodak products.
