I have downloaded the Vista Bate 2 thing.. I was curious. I have my hard drive partitioned into 2 sections. One is empty and unused, so could I just install Windows Vista on that partition, thereby avoiding the reformatting process of all my beloved files?

If anything, I think I could back up my files, but I was really hoping to not have to do that. Anyone know if that could work?

Yes, it works just fine

The only thing that vista will do is add a new boot sector to your first partion, and add a new menu so you can choose your old windows OS or new one
