(I posted this topic here because if there's any popular software that simplifies the process of font design, I don't think this topic wouldn't have to fall under either sub-forum.)

I've never explored this area of design/programming before: does anyone know where to begin experimenting with font design/alteration? Any links to free font software or font design/programming guides?

My ultimate goal is to modify the existing Burmese (Myanmar) font because I don't like the way it currently works. I'm not interested in merely changing how it looks, but I wish to add certain features on top of it. If you know how well the Japanese font works (e.g. drop-down boxes for choosing correct forms), then you'll kinda know what I'm talking about.

Sorry if this sounds a little vague. Thanks :whistling:
