Converting video to audio

Is their any program that can take audio from a video clip? (In my case, A DVD) Until now, the only way I could do this was using sound recorder and holding my headphones up to the microphone while the DVD was playing, but this method only resulted in a quiet and low quality audio clip. I just need to find a program that can let me use video files as an audio source.
