One of my USB Controllers: SiS 7002 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller has the exclamitory beside it, in the device manager.(This was since I reinstalled Windows XP) I uninstalled it and tried to install it again ( the device) but WIndows doesn't have the driver. Neither does the internet, I checked everywhere. Now my device manager recognises it as simply: USB Controller with a ?. When I try the 'update' the driver it says: the hardware was not installed because the wizard couldnt find the nesessary software. I tried the SIS site as well.

Thanks, I greatly need help.

I have no clue. Is there any way I can find this out without actually opening my case.

whew....of course, this has to be a model with 4 different versions

Earlier versions of this board used a special, proprietary usb controller made by sis

The models were k7som+
version 5.1
version 5.2a
version 7.5a
version 7.5c

If you are comfortable, open up the side of the case and look between the pci slots on the motherboard (this is where they usually print the version number)

Your description though, leads me to think this is a 5.1 or 5.2a

Go here:
http://www.ecs.com.t...nuID=35&LanID=9

Select SOCKET 462 in the first box, and k7som+(v2.1), hit search

Download the USB 2.0 drivers
install those

The site doesn't have k7som+(v2.1), Instead they have version 1.3, 5.1, 5.2a, 7.5a, 7.5c.

Ok I downloaded the driver and installed it (it is unsigned). The thing is that under device status (in properties) it says: No drivers are installed for this device. Also the name changed from
SiS 7002 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller to Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller.

I uninstalled it. Now under other devices it says: SM Bus Controller. Before it was USB Controller

Can't I just try all the versions and keep on uninstalling them?

Okay, when I try to install the driver using the setup it says: "SiS USB 2.0 Host Controller uses the inbox driver in Service Pack 1. Please upgrade to Windows XP Service PAck 1 and rescan for hardware changes in Device Manager. "

When I try to install the driver manually using device manager and the system files the download cam with, it doesn't work.

I don't have SP1 installed right now and I rather not install it. Is there a way I could download a driver that doesn't require SP1?

Thanks,

please upgrade to sp2--there is a reason they make these upgrades--they are fixing problems and closing security holes
