I recently returned from a tour overseas and found my HP Pavilion a705w acting much differently than how it performed before I left. (Thanks to a couple teenage kids!)

When I start the computer, I receive:

Windows can't find, C:\WINDOWS\mscarrt32.exe". Make sure that you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then clsick Search.

I have Spy Bot installed and was able to delete some unwanted attachments, however when I ran Symantic Antivirus to look for virus' , IT TOOK FOREVER AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING! Yes, I have the lateset updates.

Two questions, how do I get rid of that message about mscarrt32, and how can I speed it up? I've already installed Registry Mechanic and Memory Boost Pro, and they seem to have helped a little, but not much.

Both of your issues can probably be addressed with a visit to our malware forum. mscarrt32.exe is a file usually place on the machine by a worm or trojan.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions found there.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Do Not reply to or "bump" your own topic...if it shows a reply, it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
