possible ethernet problem

heh!
ok, weird update.
i took a ticket out with be (www.bethere.co.uk in case you are wondering who!)
they suggested assigning IP addys manually (as we'd already tried). doesn't do anything new.
box no longer assigned IP addresses to any device, over wireless or ethernet. nothing works!
manually assigning IP address works for the laptop. can get net again on laptop, but it's the same deal for desktop (i.e. connected, but unable to connect to box or internet)
update ticket. go out for the day, come back in. haven't changed anything since this morning and...
EVERYTHING'S WORKING!
i can get net on my desktop now and everything.
i tried changing the TCP/IP settings back to acquire IP address automatically, but it still doesn't do that.
it sounds like a faulty router to me. it's just totally random. is there any way to see what's different, or to prove it was the router? i'm guessing not.

the only way to see if it was the router...would be to use another router...i assume the people you opened the ticket with are your ISP....they may have "fixed" something on your connection and didn't tell you as that would be admitting fault...which is against the ISP code of behavior....
