I need some help.

Everytime I turn on my computer I see the little yellow icon with the updates on the corner where my clock is. It loads for a good two to three minutes and slows my computer down. It says 0& downloaded and when I go to click on it, nothing happens. Then it goes away. It has been doing this a while even before I changed my Anti-Virus. I don't remember the exact date or time. It is really annoying, is there anything I can do?
