since yesterday, when i click "my computer" icon, I get a blank pane with the searchlight.. after awhile the pc freezes and i have to power off and power on again.. windows takes longer to load.. and a few times have had a black screen with pointer frozen . Have to power off again.
Am running XP pro SP2
Any ideashow to fix this. Moreover when i click "my documents" icon.. the system locks up. ( although the pane is not blank but shows folders etc.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?
I had uninstalled NIS2005 and installed AVG and ZA ( both free)
Thanks for helping

Hi Tej...

Do you have a scanner or camera installed?

Open Control Panel and double click on the "Administrative Tools" icon. Double click "Component Services", then click "Services". In the "Services (Local)" list, right click "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)", and then click "Stop".

Try opening My Computer...any change?

Does the machine have this same issue in Safe Mode? It may be a bad driver that's hanging things up.

Right click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Click on the "Hardware" tab and then on the "Device Manager" button. Are there any devices in the list that are marked with a yellow ? or ! next to them?

Did you disable anything in msconfig.exe?
You shouldn't disable the Logical DiskManager services.
And don't disable Shell Hardware Detection either.

Hope this helped you.

Well now...three missing drivers. That may be your problem.

Download, install, and run Everest on the machine. Save a log to the desktop. Right click on the log, point to "Send to", and choose "Compressed (Zip) Folder". Attach the zip file here for me.

Do you have a cd for your motherboard?

hi wannabe1
Downloaded everest.. but there is no provision for a log or a provision to save as a compressed file.
By the way.. I tried again with the my computer icon... clicked it.. and let the searchlight try and find.. after about 45 minutes, the drives showed up in the pane. However, when i clicked the drive, the searchlight was back on again with a blank pane!!

I'm sorry...I should have included instructions for running the report. :whistling:

Run Everest and click on the "Report" icon in the toolbar. Use the wizard to save a report (All Pages / HTML format). Everest will analyze the machine. When it completes, click on "File" in the report's toolbar, select the desktop as the save location, and click "Save".

Right click on the Report.html file on the desktop , point to "Send to", and choose "Compressed (Zip) Folder". Attach the zip file here for me by browsing to it using the "Browse" button in the File Attachments area under the reply window, then click on "Add This Attachment".

With the information in this report, we should be able to round up your drivers.

Hi wannabe1
guess i have given myself a huge problem
I had ordered the Norton systemworks 2006 premier. Package arrived today, and decided to install it
got to the activation panel.. activated.. it started to do a scan. The pc froze, so, and now everytime i boot up, the pc freezes after a few minutes. Am at a complete loss. I shall try and send you the log you asked for if I get long enough before the pc freezes again.
any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks again
PS I am using the second pc to post this.

Thanks again

Can you boot to Safe Mode and remove Norton until we get the driver issue straightened out? It will only interfere with what we need to do. If you want to put an Anti Viral on there, download Avast! from the link in my signature. If you have trouble removing Norton, let me know...there are ways to make it go away.
