:tazz: I recently acquired an IBM PC 300GL Pentium 2 machine running win 95. I sucessfully formatted the hard drive and loaded win 98 & added a creative labs sound card. Problems began with 5 year old child playing Art Attack drawing program. Continuous bleeping noise which stopped on rebooting then returned. Now computer turns on but before win98 loads completely two error msgs come up.
Post start up errors
301 Keyboard error.
8603 pointing device error.
Can't get any further as mouse and keyboard won't work.
Have tried other keyboards- no use.
Can anyone help?

This might be an old wives tale: hot swapping the keyboard and mouse(ps2 devices) can damage the mother board???????? Has anyone else heard this???

The first thing to check: make sure the keyboard and mouse are not swapped.

If they were not swapped, then you might start the pc witout the keyboard(letting it fail). Then shut it down, reconnect the 'good' keyboard, and restart.

Look for bent pins on the connector of the 'bad' keyboard. Look for stuck keys too.
