I installed several Mircosoft updates today and suddenly the OE address book is gone. I have tried system restore and it is not helping. When I try to import a backup wab file it gives me an error stating that microsoft is incorrectly configured. Help

In the waiting room, you mentioned that you don't mind starting from scratch again? If we can't fix it, it might be the only solution. Try renaming the current address book file you have a .OLD extension at the end. Start up Outlook Express again and see if it allows you to create a new one now.

Error reads " Address book failed to load. Outlook express in incorrectly configured, please reinstall" , If i click to open an email the error message reads " there was an error opening this message . An error has occurred"- also when I click on the contacts pane ( lower left corner and say addd new contact- the software simply does not respond.

I am running Windows XP

I also tried to create a wab from scratch- I conducted a file search for *.wa and deleted all files it found- however after rebooting , OEX is not making a new WAB file. I have also tried removes the program ( via the remove windows componen and reinstalling it and still no success

I hope you backed up that wab file already with all your emails...

Let's give this a try to see if it can repair anything:

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

If that won't do it, take a look here and scroll down to If you are having problems only with Outlook Express 6, proceed as follows:.

Ran the SFC- it found no errors ( or it didn't show or ask for a disk) I then ran the regedit - as it was stated on your link- after the edit I downloaded the IE6 setups stated in the link and tried to install- however I got the error message that a newer version is on the computer. I ran OEX and the same errors are appearing

Do the changes mentioned under If you are having problems only with Internet Explorer 6, proceed as follows: also. So it will make the install think it's still an older version.
