I have Windows Media player 10.. The windows media player says : Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Windows Media Video 8 (WMV2) codec is not installed on your computer.

I have already installed the codec.. The WM9Codecs file ...

And doesn't work...

This started after i install a pack of codecs ....

If you go to add / remove, tick show updates, you can remove 10 to get 9 if system restore was on when you installed 10

You could try media player 11

http://www.microsoft...11/default.aspx

Did you install the pack for media player 6.4

You can repair XP, fair amount of work and time, or try media player 11 first, have system restore on if you try 11

The system restore needs to be turned on when you install media player 11, which is worth trying before the repair
