What OS?

Do you at any point receive a message that mentions 'Incorrect Function'?

What happens if you put a blank CD-R into the drive, cancel out any autorun dialogs and double click on the drive in my computer?

Okay... so. Insert a blank CD-R into the drive and nothing happens. No windows pop up at all. Then go to my computer and double click on the drive, and once again, nothing? No errors? No windows at all?

If this is the case, I'd recommend uninstalling Nero 7 demo and reinstalling whatever you were using to write CDs in the past

Okay, I'm confused. Please do the following:

Put a blank CD-R into the drive, and open My Computer. Double click on the drive in question, and reply describing exactly what happens. Do any windows open at all? Do you get any dialog boxes? I was under the impression that there was -no- response when you did this, and now you are saying that it says there is no disc in the drive.

Also, is this XP Pro, or XP Home?

If I remember correctly, there should be a logfile here:

Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core

Called nerohistory.txt or something along those lines. Please locate this file, and attach it in your next reply.

Good point. I believe that I was too hasty in telling you to do that, for which I apologize. If you would like to do so, you can reinstall Nero 7 and we can continue from there. Or, tell me what program you're using now, and I will try to ascertain if it too has a logfile and we can get the necessary information from there.

Logfile should be here:

Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Please locate the file and attach it to your next reply.

i coulndt find the nerohistory.txt file but heres something that i think might help.

I was looking around this site and i read another forum where the staff member told the person to uninstall the driver and reboot and let windows reinstall the drivers . the guy replied that it worked and he was able to burn cds again. should i try this and do the drivers automatically install after reboot.

here it is
