This piece of code should make a beep.

RunDll32.exe user.dll,MessageBeep

Instead, I get an error message that user.dll isn't a registered module.
Is that a very bad thing or can I live without it?

I don't need that message beep, I was just trying it out for fun. But is user.dll an essential part of windows or not?

user.dll governs the windows UI. I think you might be using an outdated reference, replace with user32.dll and see if that works

Thank you.

I tried it on my pc, but it didn't give a beep.
It didn't give an error message either, so I guess this should be the correct code.
I disabled some services in WinXP which might be the cause that I didn't hear that beep. I do remember some service that had a text that said something about the annoying beeps.

Thnx for this help.
