I have read the required informaton on the site and run adaware and spybot -- coming up clean! before posting. For some reason, when i use SBC Yahool DSL, I don't get pop-ups, but the secnd I use Internet Explorer I get popups galore that slow down my system and eventually force me to "pull the plug" on my internet connection -- Here's my log.

Hi there,

First of all, could you go to the next site:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top you'll find: File to upload and scan,
Browse to the next file and let it scan.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\tntk.exe

Give me the results of what was found on it in your next reply. Please also tell me, when flagged as malware by the different scanners, what kind of malware it is.

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Thanks for all your help. I had problems deleting some files and others because I could not find them:
04 - Global Startup: tntk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ihfdxkb.exe
C:\windows\system32\bnuxjk.exe
C:\Program Files\sf - this folder
C:\WINDOWS\sfita.exe

I performed an online scan with both housecall and Etrust, both found about 15 malware they deleted.

Thank you,
Kathleen

Hmmmmm, tntk.exe must be there though: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\tntk.exe

Are your hidden folders and files visible?

Anyway, sounds a bit like qoologic/narrator here. Also C:\WINDOWS\system\kmnqgq.exe in your processes.. Weird this is in your system-folder instead of in your system32-folder.

So, let's find out..

I modified Zupe's existing FindIt-batch to search in the system-folder too,
So download this: qoologic_systemsearch.zip
Unzip the contents of qoologic_systemsearch.zip to a convenient location
Now open the qoologic_systemsearch-folder and double-click on qoologicsystem.bat.
A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files.
This will take a while...
Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt.
Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post.

* Download and unzip Killbox to your desktop.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\babi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wqwl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system\kmnqgq.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\STARTM~1\Programs\Startup\tntk.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these 4 lines must be there together!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES

You computer must reboot now.

Post a new log from qoologicsystem.bat. afterwards together with a new hijackthislog.

Glad I could help you.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you do an online virusscan once in a while. (housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again!
