About two months ago, I noticed that my monitor would flash bright and then return to normal. Thinking the monitor was on its last legs, I bought a new monitor. Same thing--then I noticed the close program sound everytime this would happen. (it happens intermittently no matter what I'm doing). I recorded a specific sound and loaded this to close program in the contiol panel (sounds). It's definitely a program closing every few minutes. I've closed all programs in the lower right corner and still have this problem
I'm running and HP Pavillion 6330n with WXP and 512 RAM.. I haven't installed any programs recently I use Norton Systemworks and update and scan weekly. I also use Ad-awareSE and Spybot S&D aslo updating and scanning weekly.
I was advised on another site to run HiJackThis, which I have done. The log is as follows:

EDIT--PLEASE DO NOT POST HIJACKTHIS logs in this forum unless asked, and then only ATTACH THEM

Start > run
msconfig
<enter>

Choose SELECTIVE STARTUP and uncheck all the boxes and reboot. See if the condition repeats.

If not, go back and check each box from the bottom, one at a time, and reboot.

Keep going until the issue repeats and post back

that is most odd

start > run, type
eventvwr.msc
<enter>

Right click application and choose CLEAR ALL EVENTS, do not save the log
Right click system and choose CLEAR ALL EVENTS, do not save the log

Reboot. Work with computer until error recurs. reboot

start > run, type
eventvwr.msc
<enter>

Look under systems and applications for items with red Xs that happened at the SAME time as your problem...list them here.

Looks like Automatic live update scheduler.I'm using Norton Systemworks2006, which I just installed. It was doing all this while NSW 2005 was installed and then the free version of AVG (both now uninstalled.)

Following your instructions, I find nothing under systems. Under Applications is the following:
ERROR 11/16/2006 11:38PM Auto Live Update Scheduler 101 SYSTEM

Does that help?
