I don't really know what could of caused this problem because i haven't done anything differently recently but basically when I open internet explorer it waits about 3 sec and closes with no error messages or anything. Then when I open windows explorer it brings an error message open requesting that i close it but i can move it and just continue on until i open up another window and it closes everything. I downloaded netscape through another program having web access and netscape works just fine. Here is my hijack this log

Welcome to Geeks to Go, Courier!

First we'll need you to download the latest version of HiJack This. Click Here to download the latest version (1.99.1). Please save it in a permanent folder (such as C:\HJT). This is to ensure that backups are saved and accessible in the event you should need it.

After downloading the latest version of HiJack This (BEFORE running HiJack This), please be sure you're able to view hidden files, and look for the following program by going into Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

EasySearchBar

If this program is there please remove it.

After removing the program (if it is there), make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and all programs and windows are closed and run HiJack This again. Post your new log here.

You have some randomonly named files on your system. We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

OK, I have finished going over your log, but before I can post your fix, I need to know who your Internet Service Provider is so that I can make sure an entry in your log is legitimate.

I'll go ahead and post your fix for you, just be sure to let me know who your Internet Service Provider is when posting your new log! :tazz:

Please print out the following instructions before continuing!

The first thing we need to do is address SpySpotter. It's not mandatory that you get rid of it, but it is HIGHLY recommended. SpySpotter is a "suspect" anti-spyware product. You can read more about it here:

http://www.spywarewa...nti-spyware.htm

If you choose to get rid of SpySpotter, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove SpySpotter.

The next step is to make sure you are disconnected from the Internet, all other programs and windows are closed and run HijackThis again. Please place a checkmark next to the following items, if they exist, and then click "fix checked":

An optional, but HIGHLY recommended fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpySpotter] C:\PROGRA~1\SPYSPO~1\SpySpotter.exe

MANDATORY fixes:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oemji.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oemji.com/side_search.html
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: CDownCom Class - {031B6D43-CBC4-46A5-8E46-CF8B407C1A33} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ipreg32.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3DFA617A-BB49-0A93-D026-65550FF82049} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\pecj.dll

O3 - Toolbar: viewpartheart - {8C178921-7E85-3715-CD09-91B6C11EB848} - C:\PROGRA~1\AcidIdle\Software Each.dll (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {62475759-9E84-458E-A1AB-5D2C442ADFDE} - http://a1540.g.akama...meInstaller.exe
O16 - DPF: {8F24DE00-0D66-4F93-9405-3F21E97AEEA6} (TestingCtl Control) - http://esb.alcena.co...leInstaller.ocx
O16 - DPF: {D8089245-3211-40F6-819B-9E5E92CD61A2} (FlashXControl Object) - https://register3.va...OCX/FlashAX.cab

O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - Unknown owner - %ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe" -d -f "%ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.ini (file missing)

Now, be sure you're able to view hidden files.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 until a menu appears, then use your up arrow on your keyboard to highlight "Safe Mode", press enter. Delete the following folders and files, if found (in bold):

FOLDERS to delete:
C:\Program Files\AcidIdle
C:\Program Files\SpySpotter (only if you decided to remove SpySpotter)

FILES to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ipreg32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pecj.dll

Finally, reboot your computer in normal mode and post your new HiJackThis log to make sure everything is clean! Let us know how your system is working!

Michelle ;)

I am so glad it's running better now (I'm also glad your ISP is Sprint otherwise we'd have some more work to do :tazz: ) Anyway, there is still one other thing in your log that we need to look at. Some staff members are talking about what to do there. I will let you know as soon as I find out! So, be sure to come back! ;)

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
