Cannot connect to exchange server help!

Within the firm we have a domin controllor server and then on a seperate server there is exchange 2003 which is running on windows server 2003 with sp1.

the problem i am having is that i want to be able to connect to the internat network through a vpn connection.

the company has a sonicwall solo3 and i can connect to the internat network using the sonicwall vpn client software and i can get onto all the severs and i can ping the server

once connected however if i try to connect Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 to the exchange server it just keeps saying trying to connect and will not actually connect to the server.
I can reach everythink within the vpn however this is the only program that will not access the server.

Can anyone HELP?
