My computer, which is running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center will no longer go into either standby mode nor will it shut down.

When I click on Start - Turn Off Computer and then press Standby.... I get the Preparing to stand by screen, however the computer does not go into standby.... the same thing happens when I press Shut Down. Usually after about one minute or perhaps two, I will push the button on the front of my pc to switch it off.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this and how to fix this?
