Hi

Download WinPFind to your C Drive.
http://download.blee...r/winpfind2.zip

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe to launch the program.

Under File Options,Click the Select All tab.

Now, Click "Run All Standard Scans"

The scan takes a bit to finish, please be patient.

Once Completed-> Click "Save Scans to Text File" and the log (WinPFind2.txt) will be automatically saved to the WinPFind folder.

Restart Normal and Open the HijackThis folder

Right Click HijackThis.exe and Select Rename

Rename it to look.exe

Double Click look.exe to launch HijackThis

Do a System Scan and Save a Logfile.

Post back with the fresh HijackThis log and the report from WinPFind.

Hi. Thanks for the advice.
I installed winpfind2 and it would not run. I received the message "A device attached to the system is not functioning".
Please advise again, and thanks for all your help! (I'm a techno idiot.)

See if WinPFind will run in Normal Mode??

Also,Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.

Post the CureIt log and the WinPFind log if it ran?

Ireally seem to be in trouble now. I think the gremlins are winning. I was able to run WinPFind in normal mode and saved the log. However, my computer will now not go online (even though it says it's connected), so I can't send you a copy of the log. I tried rebooting the machine but I still can't access anything. I'm e-mailing you through another computer. I tried twice to run Dr. Web CureIt and both times it stopped about 3/4 of the way through the scan with the message that "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." Before it quit, it had found one problelm: DLOADER.Trojan. No log was saved since it didn't finish. Please advise.

Boot the machine in Safe Mode, this time choose Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can get a live internet connection?

If so,post back and let me know.

Also,Let me see a HijackThis Start Up log.

Open HijackThis and Click the "Open Misc Tools Section" tab.

Select Generate StartUpList log and make sure that both Boxes beside it are checked:

Put a check by:
List all minor sections(Full)
and
List Empty Sections(Complete)

It will produce a NotePad Page,I need you to copy the entire contents of that page to the next reply.

If you have to transfer the logs via a disc and another computer, please do so.

I need to have a look at whats happening to the machine.

Thanks so much for all your help. Before you go to any more trouble, my husband brought in his computer guy who just wiped the system clean and started fresh. I'm trying to reload all our programs now. Any advice on how to prevent the same thing from happening again? I'm using Norton Anti Virus, Spybot Search and Destry and AdAware. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Again, thanks for all your help!!

O wow, there was just a Internet Protocol Hijack but to be honest, when malware is involved, sometimes a clean wipe and fresh start is the only real way to go to ensure the Systems stability and Security.

Please Install these 2 to add to the Security of the PC!

SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacools.../downloads.html
Update Immediatly!

WinHelp2002 Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/...2002/hosts2.htm

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

It is suggested that you go and change all your passwords since some of these may have been compromised during the infection.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Please remember to check your AntiVirus and any Spyware Apps for updates atleast twice a week

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us! :whistling:
