I've built my own computer and been using it without issue for about a year now. It's a fairly fast computer that I run windows 2000 on. I have cox internet and printer access via a LAN within the house. last night I came home to find that when I opened internet explorer I immediately got the "page not found" white screen. I figured something was wrong with the LAN or modem, so I went into the other room to check. both were fine, and the internet works fine on the other 2 computers. on my computer, after testing connections and such, it says the LAN and internet are transferring data and connected properly. so I ruled out the hardware or wiring as being a problem. I also have firefox in additon to IE, and the net won't load on there, either. so I think the program of IE itself isn't hte problem. somewhere between the hardware sending the info, and the program receiving it, something is going on. did a virus/adware scan with norton internet security last night and nothing was found. Help?

also, i have not recently installed or downloaded any new software, or been on any sites besides google. i think the problem is somewhere in the communication between the hardware and the web browser but I don't know where.

I don't know if this will help but you can decide for yourself.

As a last resort there is a winsock fix also.

This might help.

To repair IE5.

and this

Now i would have upgraded to IE6 long ago and you could try that to fix your problem.
