I have installed a DVDRW on a Compaq Presario with an Athlon 2600 processor and 512 MB of DDR SDRAM. It already had a CDRW/DVD player but I wanted to burn DVDs Windows XP SP2 installed the driver as DVDRW IDE 1008. I updated the flash on the drive through DVRUPDATE.com It will play CDs and DVDs and will burn CDs, just won't burn a DVD, keeps saying there isn't a disk in it or that the media is no good. I have used DVD+R and DVD-RW and neither will work. I no longer have the box it came in so I don't know the manufacturer.
