Hi all,

I have recently updates to Office 2007, beta. In Powerpoint, after i have saved a presentation and try to reopen it a message of " Powerpoint cant read c:\documents and settings\my documents\presentation.pptx"

I have tried to open office 2003 powerpoint and the same message popps up, except for the presentation.pptx, which comes up as the file i am trying to open.

I am able to preview it if i highlght the powerpoint file but unable to open it. Is there a option or a feature that doesnt allow you to open saved powerpoint files???

Apart from that, office 2007 looks good.

Thanks

Ok well this seems weird as mine opens, saves and then reopens fine so it doesn't look like it is a problem on their side.

Where did you download the Office beta from?

Have you ran the Microsoft Office Diagnostics tool?

Hi CJIS,

I got it from the place i purchased my computer from. I have run diagnostics and all seems well.

I might reinstall it and see how i go.

I think reinstalling the application would be best.

I'm no office expect, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that the file extension for an office 2003 powerpoint was .ppt and I see that 2007 has .pptx ... Perhaps 2003 cannot read that extension? Could be another Microsoft way to get you to replace one of their programs with a more updated version... But I can't say for sure.

You are correct the office extension for 2003 was .ppt but the updated Office 2007 is .pptx becuase it now uses zip compression and xml on the files and these files can be opened using Office 2007 only, this so reduces the size of the files as in Word they now use .docx and so on.

Hi CJIS,

I reinstalled office 2007, without luck. The same error message apeared. As my windows and office are 100% legit, i downloaded office 2007 from the microsoft website. Again without luck.

I have reinstalled office 2003 pro. I think i might stick with this version.

Thanks for your help
