I have a hard drive that I would like to format... however, this computer does not have an internal floppy OR CD drive, only an external CD drive attached through a USB.

Is it even possible to boot from the XP CD? I've tried switching the BIOS to booting via CD, but it seems not to work.

If the PC already has Windows installed, you can fit the drive as a second drive and format it from within Windows. Don't think you can boot from a USB device.
Fit a regular CD drive to the PC -- dead easy and they don't cost much these days.

Thanks. I actually called tech support and it seems as if it is unable to boot from a USB device.

I actually have a super-slim laptop were installing a drive of any kind is really impossible, but thanks anyway.
