I have a custom built P4 2.6 MHz desktop, 1GB SIMM, running Windows XP. No problems until we had a power outage in my neighborhood a couple of days ago. Since power resumed, I have been unable to get power to the computer. Tried different outlets in the house and replaced the power supply with a new one. Don't know what else to try...Boricua

Check to see if fans turn on, floppy drive and/or cdrom lights turn on, and power lights come on. If none of these work and you did replace the power supply its time to start checking the hardware. Pull the ram out and check to see if there are any burn spots, or different colored contacts on the ram or the slot. Do the same thing with the video card. Try restarting after replacing these. Still no go means pulling the processor to check for burnt areas. It you don't want to go that far it probably the CPU or motherboard that has been burnt and you will need a replacement. If the power came on suddenly a surge could have burnt a lot of the hardware. A brownout of the power can do the same damage. The best thing i ever bought for my computers is a UPS that lets me shut the computer down when the power goes out.
