How to disable Norton Anti Virus

I'm told that installing and using more than one antivirus program at a time can cause conflict and degrade the effectiveness. I'm interested in utilizing some of the shareware advertised on this site. So how do I disable Norton.

After, you have downloaded and installed the trial, click start then run, type msconfig then press enter, go to start up, remove tick from NAV, reboot, if you right click the NAV taskbar icon and then disable autoprotect, it does not turn NAV completely off.
