I do not know why you would want to since in a home computer it's really not needed.

It would have been nice if you had tried to explain why you think you need the ECC memory.

Because Its free, i already have it and my computer sorely needs an increase in memory!

If the computer does not boot after installing the ECC memory it will be that the motherboard does not support the memory. Most will boot with it but there are a few that will not. There is no software upgrade or drivers to make that happen if the puter won't boot.
