Hey! I'm a student and I'm looking for a laptop that's cheap and that I can play around with. I just need wireless internet and a word processor. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do like the sims. The one I was looking at is an older model, an Apple iBook Clamshell G3. It has the newest operating system (Mac OS 10.4, Tiger), 12GB hardrive capacity, 320 MB in memory, Processor Type: PowerPC G3, and finally Processor Speed: 300 Hz

I'm deffinately not an expert on this but is my laptop going to be slow? Can i update it?

It all depends on what your doing with it and what you mean in terms of speed. A 300Mhz processor is't the fastest on the market by any stretch of the imagination, however, if all you looking to do with it is work for school or internet then this should pose no problems. The same goes with the sims. If the spec of the PC matches or excells that of the minimum requirementsto run the game then again you shopuldn't come across any problems other than it may take a little longer to load or boot up the PC, but from the sound of what you will be using it for the spec sound suitable. Speed isn't always everything. Is it worth paying $100 extra to get one that boots up 1-2 seconds faster!?...

thanks, I think your right, I ended up buying it and I'll only be using it for internet and maybe a word processor. I heard that you can install a fujitsu hardrive. Do you know if that would be hard to do?

It is a pretty difficult procedure, especially if you're not experienced with these sorts of things. It basically requires that you completely disassemble the computer (and correctly reassemble it, of course! ).

If you'd rather not dismantle it (i wouldnt blame you if you didnt) then get yourself an external hard drive. there pretty cheap these days and it just plugs in to the usb. you can use you internal hard drive for the OS and keep everything else on the external.

If I get an external hardrive does it have to be for an apple computer or are they for any computer?

No it shouldn't matter. You would be able to format it to the file system that mac's use. But when you get it you can always ask who you buy it from.
