Good Evening!

I am trying to troubleshoot a slowness issue on my HP/Compaq S4020WM.

The hard drive seems to be constantly accessed.
I am guessing that the 128 RAM that came standard is the problem but wanted thoughts on possible other "more deviant" possibilities for the issue.

I ran a hjackthis log in hopes it may help verify if there is a software related issue...
Any help or thoughts are most appreciated!

Hi:

Considering the number of processes you have running with only 128 MB of RAM, it's no wonder your HD is being accessed a lot. Windows is having to use it more and more as virtual memory so there's going to ba a lot of reading/writing. I'm surprise you have Win XP, McAfee, AOL and all the other and haven't had more problems other than slowness.

BTW, posting a HiJackThis log in this section of the forum should only be done when requested. Usually it can just be attached to your post for a download. If you suspect you may have malware, and I do not have the expertise to read your log, please go to the Malware section of this forum and follow the instructions at the top. Especially the Click Here link. That will give you several steps that will help you clean up most of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the cleanup process you are still having difficulty, and you may not be, then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert(s), please return to this thread. Please do not post another HiJackThis log in this thread unless asked to do so and then only as an attachment.

Let us know if your problem has been solved.

If you can go to Start, Run and type in msconfig and select Startup tab and see what running programs you have that you don't actually need at boot-up, it will help tremendously. 5-10 are good. Getting up to the 15-25 range is iffy. Over that, you're asking for it. More RAM would definately help, but you didn't mention whether you wanted to buy more.
