I can not boot my system from disc or otherwise. If anyone has any suggestions PLEASE RESPOND! The message I'm getting is,

"STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error} The session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000009c (0x00000000). The system has been shut down."

can you give us any indication what was going on before this all started?

this is known to happen with malware, remote control software, and 3rd party utilities like Norton Goback

also, do you have a windows xp disk?

I have an old windows xp disc that isn't helping matters at all. Prior to this happening I was just getting the windows xp screen w/the progress bar and nothing else. I attempted to use the disc, use safe mode, etc. I I tried everything but obviously made matters worse because now this is the only message that comes up (following restarting windows in the blue screen) URRGGH!!

You could try booting into the recovery console and running

chkdsk /r

if the problem is simply a corrupt msgina.dll, that might do it

Or copy the msgina.dll from c:\windows\dllcache to c:\windows\system32

Failing that, a windows repair

I went through the repair link in your above reply. In the begining I was flagged with "setup cannot delete the file:ipp_0001.gif. This error will not prevent setup from completing sucessfully" that happened for ipp_0009 (10, 11, 13, 14 & ipp_00016). Then after getting through that process it says "setup cannot copy the file ipp_0002.gif (as well as 0003, 0005, 00012, 00015, cove1256.fon, netepicn.inf, wsrentra.dll, win32k.sys, winsrv.dll, umpnpmfr.dll, winbrand.dll, winh1p32.exe, wmidk.ocx, wmvdmoe.dll and xpsoires.dll. It warned me that if i hit esc for these files it could prevent setup from completin successfully, which it did. The computer restarted and went back to the initial screen of ""STOP: C000021a {Fatal System Error} The session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000009c (0x00000000). The system has been shut down."

Any other suggestions?

clean the xp cd with warm soapy water and pat dry with soft cloth

Clean the CD-ROM with a cd-rom cleaner

These are indications of an inability read the cd.

thank you for your timely response!!! I will try this. If this fails should I attempt (if i can get my hands on one) to use another windows home xp disc. I believe a family member might have one.

yes, IF-- IF--it is the same version as yours

there are several
XP HOME retail
XP HOME OEM
XP HOME Upgrade

You need to match with the version you have, otherwise you may run into problems

If the hardrive is slightly corrupted, you will need to reinsert your cd key--and your cd-key will only work on similarly made cds.

The warm soapy water did not work. I find it hard to believe the internal disc needs cleaning because it was working fine prior to this mess, where as the disc hasn't seen the light of day in over a year. Sooo...where would I find the cd key. I know you have a link that finds it for you on your computer but my computer will not even boot up so is there a way of finding this mysterious key?

on the side of your pc case, there is a sticker with the key on it, if you bought this computer from someone

If you built it yourself, it was on a sticker on the case or the packaging

okay, and what if i do not have the sticker that was on there anymore? Am I just bumming? Can i get this info from f2 start up? Is it called something else. Can you PLEASE please please help me because I have to use others computers just to email you for tid bits of information and I am ready to go into an extreme panic attack...please? Is there any hope for this computer I have? Are my questions too ignorent for you? I am a poor part time student working full time days living on poverty level and I do not have the means to have a professional look at the computer. It isa compaq laptop but only works (i've only used it plugged into the cable outlet in my efficiency apartment. Please is there any hope? the only way to recover the cd-key is in a working copy of windows -- it is encrypted in the registry

I cannot find anyone with the same operating disc as mine (operating system cd MS Windows XP Home SP1a) You mentioned I cannot use any cd. I hardly care about lost files anymore, I am desperate to get my computer up and running. As I mentioned the soapy water did not help with the disc situation; same scenerio still happening. Can I purchase the same operating cd for a reasonalble amount somewhere? Will Istill need the cd keyl I assume there will be a new cd key??
