With the money you saved you would be better off with 2gb of ram.. Look at the final price of the system and if its still quite abit under your budget then decide if you really need the 2gb of ram or not.

More memory is always better. 2gb is plenty.

Good Morning, thanks again for all your help last night. I'm really excited about building this system. I added that video card to my shopping list. I'm going to try to decide on a case this morning. I need to get an ATX mid, right? Or would I be okay with a mini ATX tower. I am considering this one. I know it comes with a power supply, but I'll use it when I build my son's PC.

Antec PERFORMANCE TX640B Black Steel ATX Mini Tower Computer Case 400W Power Supply – Retail

Also, what size of HD would you recommend?

As far as monitor goes, I like the 21' lcd (the wide ones), will my system do well with it?

Thanks

oh, ok. I'll keep looking for a ATX mid case then. You said 'at least', does that mean a full tower would be better? Just having hard time finding one that people haven't complained about being flimsy, not having removable motherboard tray, flimsy doors, etc.

any suggestions for these:

A 200 or 250Gb harddrive would be fine for now and probably all you will ever need.

Look at antec, cooler master, thermaltake, or aspire..

check out aspire cases.

yes the system would be fine with a 21 inch lcd monitor.

I mainly will use my new PC for college work, internet surfing, and DEFINATELY MOVIES!!!! Thanks in advance.

If that is all your going to be doing you could get by with a single core. The single cores are cheap.

I would stick with the dual core its just more technology and more future proof..

Look at these..

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103735

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819103747

The amd am2 3800+x2 would be fine for you and the 4200+ x2 would be even better. If I were you I wouldnt get over the 4200+ x2 because you dont really need a machine any faster..

The 3800+x2 is overal a great deal for what you are getting..

For example the 3800+ is equivalent to a pentium 4 3.8ghz would be, since we are looking at the dual cores that means its two processors so its really two 3800+ cpu's. :whistling:

I understand. Those prices are alot better too. Assuming that I get everything that we've talked about, which video card would be optimum? I DO watch alot of movies on it, edit movies, etc. I also DO like occassional games like the Half-Life games, etc.

Then all I have to really worry about it finding a case, I may have to look for that in the morning. \

Thanks again for helping me!

For a video card I found one that will work great for movies and you can play the current games aswell with no problems..

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814161016

I went with the ati on this because they do seem to have alittle better quality on movies than the nvidia does but im still a fan of nvidia.

The price is great also, and yes the better the video card it helps in movies. You dont need a video card any more powerful than this one because you dont need it. Dont get one any faster than around this unless you want to play the newest games at ultra or absolute maximum video settings..

This would be perfect for your pc..

Okay, I need an expert opinion:

1. Is everything compatable?

2. Is there anything else that I'll need to buy to put my system together? Anything at all?

3. I'll be using it for tons of college work, tons of internet surfing, occassional games such as Half-life games, and tons and tons of video work & movie downloading and editing. Will this system be more than enough?

This is my plan, please review and let me know, thanks!

Question. I found a case that I like, but it doesn't come with a removable motherboard tray. I have a tray from a dell laying around the house. Can I use it with the new case?
