Hi joeyp. Welcome back to GTG. :help: Sorry it took so long to get back with you. I need to ask you to not make multiple posts regarding the same problem. It takes us time to go back and close them down. I hope you understand. Thanks. :whistling:

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Shdocvw.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, [b]then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

I'm sorry about the duplicate post, but the first post was because I saw it in a program, but then it took over my homepage ,so i created a new post for that, I guess I should have put it in my old post, again sorry. Here is the new HJT log ,and I did a Kaspersky scan instead, because I haven't had any luck with the Panda scan in the past.

Try renaming hijack this to look.exe and then rescanning. Please post the log here.

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As", in FF it's "Save Link As") to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When you open it up, can you save it as something? it should automatically save as hijackthis.exe. When it prompts you to save it, change the name. Run it again and give me a log.

I still do not see anything running.

Why can you not do a panda scan? Can you run one from housecall?

TrendMicro™ HouseCall ActiveX Scan
  • Please go HERE to run the Trend Micro™ HouseCall Scan.
  • Click Scan now. It's free!
  • Read and put a Check next to Yes I accept the terms of use.
  • Click the Launching HouseCall>> button.
  • Under "Browser plug-in" Installing and using Housecall kernel, click the Starting HouseCall>> button.
  • You may receive a prompt to install the ActiveX, click install.
  • If you are taken back to the main page, click Launching HouseCall>> button again.
  • Under Scan complete computer for malware, grayware, and vulnerabilities click the Next>> button.
  • Please be patient while it installs, updates, and scans your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will take you to the summary page.
  • Under Cleanup options, choose clean all detected infections automatically.
  • Click the Clean now>> button.
  • If anything was found you may be prompted to run the scan again, you can just close the browser window.

Here is the hjt/look.exe log you requested. I redownloaded Highjackthis and renamed it look.exe, before I saved it,was this correct? Then I ran the trend housecall scan which showed several infections ,which it cleaned. but at the end of the cleaning there was a (7 ad dialer) infection still sitting there,so I hit clean now,and my browser said it needed to close. Was there suppose to be a log file to save,if so I didn't see it. When I logged back on About:Blank, was still my homepage.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run CleanUp!Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log.

Here are the results of the scans you asked for.The aboutbuster did not give me the option to update when I navigated to the folder, does that mean there was no update available? Cw shredder showed no infected files. Why are these scans not finding anything ,when I can see the aboutblank ,as plain as day in my Homepage? good question huh?

Yes , I did try to rest my homepage with no luck,it just shows up with about blank in the address bar,and a blank page. I re-ran the aboutbuster scan twice in safe mode and here is the results.A friend suggested I try a scan called Mcafee Avert Stinger, what is your advice on this. I am now going to reset my restore points.

<<why do you run it in safe mode? Please run it in regular mode.

A friend has used Stinger with success. I have never used it, though and I have never seen anyone recommend it on this site.

I ran the aboutblank problem by a friend on another website, and he said he had the same thing once, and this is what he did to get rid of it. He told me to,disconnect my cable modem from my pc,and then delete the aboutblank from my homepage ,and then type in the homepage I wanted. Then he said to restart my PC ,and then turn my Pc off ,and while it was off ,reconnect to my modem, and then restart. When I clicked on internet explorer, there was the homepage I wanted,it worked, aboutblank was gone. Should I go now and reset my system restore,by disabling and enabling it ?,and is this really fixed ?

Wow. Never heard of that fix but sounds like it worked. Yes, I would set new restore points.
Let me know how it goes.
