ok, that was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be

you now have two partitions....correct?

which one is vista on? which one were you trying to install xp on?

vista is on the first one C and I was trying to install xp on the second one D

get your self a windows 98 boot floppy and copy bootsect.exe from the folder BOOT on your VISTA CD.

Boot with it and type

bootsect.exe /nt60 c:
<enter>

That should restore your vista boot sector to C:

If your boot configuration data was not damaged from Vista...and there is no reason it should have been given what you did, then it should just come right back up on reboot
