XP File & Settings Transfer Wizard

I am attempting to transfer 2 folders with old files from a win98se pc to a winxpmc pc using the wizard. I have attached a 9-pin serial cable to each and run wizard on both. I deleted all settings and file types from requested transfer leaving only the 2 folders I want transfered. The wizard collects all the files in the 2 folders and the 2 PC's have successfully connected. The old 98 PC shows "connecting to new computer" & the new computer shows "Connection established & transferring settings.......".
This is as far as wizard gets. It sits for hours with no files being transfered.

Any suggestions??
