I have decided to use my main PC mostly as a DAW and occasional web browser
and use my old P3 for downloading and uploading our files to each other, and
other day to day web stuff like mail and so-on.

i'm in a guitar recording forum where we send each other lots of files,as we all
have different things we're good at and some mix, some play bass, some like me just
play stuff.
The problem with all this is if you use a PC as a DAW with pretty high CPU load and
wanting as much free RAM as poss and above all else totally stable. Then That's not very
happy being used as an office, browser media and DVD player as well.
It's OK to start with but once you've got lots of audio plug-in's and VST's installed
they can crash as mine has in the past several times and i'm using 1 gig of ram too.

Hence freeing up my main PC,by using my P3 for more mundane day-to-day stuff.

Other guys already do this as it is definitely the best solution, but they're wealthier than
me so i've thought of using my P3 instead. They're just using 2 good PC's because they can afford
it.

So that's the reason for using it,but how do i transfer the data from my P3 to my main PC ?
I want to avoid burning discs,as we've got tons of discs already as you can imagine from recording.
I'll be wanting to transfer data[mostly audio]to AND from the P3 and my AMD XP 2500+,so i can work
on the files on my good PC and use the P3 to send and receive across the internet.

The 2 PC's can be right next to each other if i wish and the P3's a base unit not tower like my better one.
Is there some way in XP pro of doing this ? both are running XP pro BTW,or will i need to use some App to
do it ?
I haven't got Firewire in either PC,but can i do it with bluetooth ?
Can it be part of a LAN ? the P3's pretty old but the motherboard on my better one has a LAN socket, which the
P3 doesn't have ?
I don't mind which way really, cable or wireless just so long as it's reasonably fast and very stable.

I've never done this before, all i've ever done is burn CD's/DVD's,save data to my MP3 player[only 128 MB]
and up and dowload over the internet,so it's the best solution for me but i haven't a clue how to do it.
Thanks guys[and girls].

I believe your best route is to connect them via a LAN. Use a router. I use the Linksys Network Everywhere 4-Port Router. It is reliable, basic, and almost effortless to configure. You will also need an ethernet cable per computer.
Once you have established your LAN you will need to "Map a Network Drive". You will find this in "My Computer" under "Tools". When you have the drives mapped they will appear as hard drives in "My Computer". At this point it is as easy as Drag&Drop from one computer to another.
If you need a NIC for your P-III here is a link to an inexpensive one..

I do not like USB but I include one also. I find them problematic, and they won't function in Safe Mode...
