Thanks Keith for the reply. Gonna leave for work in a bit and will check back to see if you posted more suggestions in about 11 hours. I appreciate your patience. FYI, I won't turn off the laptop.
Aloha!

Hi Keith,
When you made post regarding the extra windows folders, it did not show any corruption, so I left it. Is that okay? Also, I guess I will wait until you give me more advice as to how to solve this problem of mine. Sorry for being such a pain and thanks for your patience.

Can you click start then run, type msconfig then press enter, put the dot in selective start up, remove the tick for load start up items, click apply and reboot
Click do not start the configuration utility if it shows, if it starts OK then the test will be if you switch it of, though do that overnight

Okay, made sure of all the settings in msconfig, but can you explain what the test is? Do you want me to turn it off (and leave it off overnight), then report back to you with results?
thanks man

As it reboots fine, only turning it off will make the difference

I kept it off overnight and this is what happened:
First, when I rebooted, a new stop error occurred. It said"the problem seems to be caused by the following file: atikvmag.dll PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and on the bottom of the page it said atikvmag.dll - address BFA5FFCB base at BFA50000, datestamp 438fbb95
Second, I had to get it to reboot, was in safe mode so I could do the prefetch and disc clean up, and before I could run prefetch, it showed another error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I hope this helps you. I am leaving for work now, so I will check back tonight.

Good Question
Click start, My Computer, click local disc C
You should see a folder called ATI, click / open that to get a folder called support, click / open that to get a version number, say 6-1_xp_2k etc
Post that please

No luck.
I went to C drive, no folder called ATI. So I poked around and found ATI Technologies folder in Program Files. I opened that and found nothing that said support. All I see are files with dll, hlx, or cnt.
Sorry.

I ordered this laptop with everything installed. i am looking at a couple of CD's that came in the box. One says it's the Application and Driver Recovery DVD, another says it's the Operating System CD.
Are any of these the one you mean?
Thanks.
