I was wondering if this is possible and how to do it:

I have:
Audio Adapter: Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller

I have speakers and a headset.

I was wondering, how do you say do this:

All the sound from the computer / music, etc, play from the speakers

and all the sound from Skype play from the headset headphone, and when I talk in microphone, my voice goes to the Skype receiver. I want to do this for Skype, Vent, TeamSpeak, Counter-Strike. Anything that involves speaking to another person, etc.

And everything from computer sounds to music I want to be played from the speakers.

Can someone tell me how to do this? Thank you.

hey, if you don't mind, tubui, i'd like to ask another question in this thread that has gone unanswered on other forums...

ill explain quickly: i need to record music, and cannot use my main microphone jack (to plug in guitar or mic) because something has been jammed in it for over a year now.

there is another mic jack along with a 2nd headphone jack at the bottom of my computer. they seem to be "extra", because they are off away from all the other plug-in things, and also because i cant seem to get them to work. i have tried changing the sound settings and everything i could think of to try to make them pick up sound, but they won't work. does anyone know why this is, and how i can get them to work? thanks

The mic part is not a problem but the speakers/headset is.
You would need to place a manual switch to have either speakers or headset
The sound output is common to both from all programs/games.
Feedback(squeeling) will occur if mic and speakers are close to each other,
headset eliminates feedback,if speakers are still on then feedback will still occur.
A bluetooth headset may not have these problems,I don't know.

Generally the front or extra Mic/spkr jacks need be wired 2 ways,

1.inside box the plugs for each are not passed through to back panel to connect to sound card points.(older PCs)

or

2.they may require attachment to motherboard via an Audio 10 pin connector, pretty much the same way extra usb ports connect to motherboard.(newer PCs)

I don't know what you mean?

I would like to clear this up that there is NOTHING wrong with my sound.

I hear everything with my speakers and headset headphones.

All I want to do is make it so that only my headphones receive the sound that I am using it to speak with. Say Skype. I want to only hear the person's voice in my headphones and not the speakers.

Click start, control panel, sounds and audio then sounds and audio again, click the voice tab and you can set the default playback as the headphones, click the audio tab and you can set playback as the soundcard, click apply if you change anything

If it is a dedicated skype headset you would most likely have a programme to install, then it would show as an option

The sound scheme is for the various bing bongs when you click something or mail arrives

It can be done with a dedicated headset, without it the assumption is probably that you will either listen through headphones or speakers, see if anyone else comes up with anything

pale-folklore, please make your own thread or you will confuse everyone.

Keith, how do I know if the headset I have is dedicated or not? I also on the back of my computer there is a green, blue and pink slot.

I have this splitter that allows me to plug multiple audio devices in, but the splitter is plugged into the green hole and the headset, speakers are plugged in the splitter.

My question is, what is the blue hole for? Maybe for the headset?
