Folks,

I have a friend whose work PC has a 35Gb ATAPI Rev drive that runs an incremental backup on an hourly basis and has done quite successfully for a number of months - until last week. It now locks the machine up with livesystem.exe showing as a permanent user of 99+% of the CPU in Processes of Task Manager. Quitting the software properly makes no difference, end the process through Task Manager makes no difference, the machine carries on using 99+% of its resources on livesystem.exe, the only resolution is to reboot the PC.

Watching the log and the hardware it locks on a specific file, but that differs each time as does the percentage completed. In terms of the drive lights, the Rev drive light stops at that point and the hard disc drive light carries on but slows to 'normal'.

The PC is a normal Acer Power Series FV with 258Mb RAM running standard Office and Sage Finance and Payroll software. It is totally standard, not overly taxed and not used for anything other than standard office applications. It does have Norton Internet Security 2005 which, along with the XP it runs, automatically update.

Any suggestions or ideas most gratefully received. Many thanks.
