Hi, I have been infected with some form of virtumonde and have tracked it down to windows\system32\pmnoo.dll and windows\system32\oonmp.ini

Have tried to use vundofix.exe and then killbox.exe as suggested by retrac in the following thread:

http://www.geekstogo...showtopic=90615

as soon as i delete the file with killbox i get a message "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process".

Note: You have to use Internet Explorer to do the online scan.

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan

* Also open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here.

The Uninstall list looks fine and the HJT log is clean. Let's try another online scan to see what it finds.

* Go here and do the BitDefender online virus scan.
  • Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
  • Allow the ActiveX control to install when prompted.
  • Click "Click here to scan" to begin the scan.
  • Please refrain from using the computer until the scan is finished.
  • When the scan is finished, click on "Click here to export the scan results"
  • Save the report to your desktop then come back here and attach it to your next reply along with a new Hijack This log..
Note: You have to use Internet Explorer to do the online scan.

The program also told me that it could not disinfect file but it did delete it.

I have also noticed that in C:\windows\system32 the following files:
oonmp.ini2
oonmp.tmp
ikhcore.log
oonmp.ini
oonmp.bak1
pmnoo.dll

I have tried everything to clean these but they keep coming back and pmnoo.dll will not delete saying the file is in use by another program.

1. Click here to download The Avenger by Swandog46 and save it to your desktop.
  • Right click on Avenger.zip and choose "Extract All" extract the avenger.exe file.
  • Extract it to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the quote box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C) or right clicking it and choosing "Copy":

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\oonmp.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\System32\oonmp.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\oonmp.ini
C:\WINDOWS\System32\oonmp.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmnoo.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Come back here to this thread. Copy and paste the contents of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log .

pmnoo.dll and oonmp.ini are now finally deleted from c:\windows\system32 folder
Looks like it stored pmnoo.dll and oonmp.ini in a zip file in the avenger folder.
Should i go ahead and delete the (file missing) entries listed in the HJT and the zip folder containing infected files?

as i was typing this reply, i noticed that blank internet explorer window popping up again in the taskbar, what is going on there?

btw do you know what program generates ikhcore.log and places it in the windows\system32 folder?
Thanks again.

Thanks again.

Killbox could not find the spywarebot file to delete it. I did a file search for it and returned nothing.

After running ATF cleaner, no infections were found.

Took a screenshot of windows task manager processes screen while the blank internet explorer box was popping up on the taskbar and found 2 new exe files.

HPOSM.exe
hptskmgr.exe

seems as if they are tied to hpcmpmgr.exe which sometimes gives me an end process now box when i am trying to shut down windows.

im guessing this has to do with my hp printer...not sure why it would run every approx every 15 mins and seem to be reporting somewhere and bogging down my system.

ran a ewido scan and am still having probs with some tracking cookies, the virtumonde file was already deleted by killbox

Yes those are for you HP printer and do not need to be running all the time. Let's go ahead and remove those and a few other of those apps that you have loading at startup that do not need to run.

Go to Start > Run and type in msconfig.
Click OK or hit the Enter key.

Click on the "Startup" tab and remove the check by these:

NvCplDaemon "RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

C-Media Mixer Mixer.exe /startup

HP Component Manager "C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe"

DXDllRegExe dxdllreg.exe

DIGStream "C:\Program Files\DIGStream\digstream.exe"

DIGServices "C:\Program Files\ESPNRunTime\DIGServices.exe" /brand=ESPN /priority=0 /poll=24

TkBellExe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

HP Software Update "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"

iTunesHelper "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

QuickTime Task "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

SunJavaUpdateSched C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe

Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe

Click "Apply" then "Close"

You will be prompted to restart. Go ahead and restart.

Upon restart you will be confronted with a dialogue box warning about running in selective startup. Just ignore that message and put a check in the box by "Don't show me this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" and click "OK". You will not be bothered by the message again.

Keep in mind that some entries will be re-enabled in the startups each time you use that particular program. Therefore, you will have to find the option in that programs preferences that says something like "Load with Windows" or "Run when Windows Starts" and disable that option.

Go here for info on msconfig:

http://www.pacs-port...artup_index.htm

You can look up the startups at the following links to help determine what is needed and what is not:

http://computercops....tartupList.html

http://www.bleepingc...r.com/startups/

http://www.answersth...es/tasklist.htm

http://www.windowsst...p...t=50&end=75

* Go here and do an online virus scan. Choose "Complete Scan" and select all drives to scan.

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it.

Note: You have to use Internet Explorer to do the online scan.

Post a new HiJackThis log and report back what the Housecall scan found.
