Need help desperately.

Computer does not reconized a disc or the or the CD or DVD drive

SYSTEM:
M/S Windows XP / Home Edition / Version 2002 / Service Pk 2
Manufactured by / Gateway Model 55GE / Intel ® / Pentium 4
CPU 3.20 GHz / 504 MB of ram
The computer has a double-layer burning 8.5 GB max capacity.
Also a compact disc CD-Rom.

This is the trouble-shooting i have done so far.
1) Made sure that the disc label was facing up, and then try it again.
2) I shut down and restarted the computer to see if the computer was
experiencing some memory problems. Memory is ok.
3) Restarted the computer, then I enter the Bios Setup utility by pressing
and holding the F2 key while the computer restarted , to make sure
that the IDE contollers are enable. THEY WERE NOT , THEY WERE DISABLE.
4) I then went to the HARD DISK PRE-DELAYED configuration and it also was
disable. i pressed the enter key and changed it to a ( 5 seconds) There were
no enable option. pressed F10 key and restarted the computer, reinserted
a disc in the CD-rom, and a dvd disc in the dvd drive, still the same problem.
5) When the discs are inserted in either drive (D) or (E) this is what happens.
A) In the dvd rom the light is green and blinks nothing else.
B) In the cd-rom it does the same thing.
6) When i open my computer and r/click on either drive i get this message.
Please insert a blank disc in drive D /E.
7) The device mngr shows that everything is operating normal and enable.

Don't know what else to do. Hopine that i wouldn't be needing new dvd or cd-rom.
any help or expertise will be gladly appreciated.

Did you try to uninstall the Drives in device manager? Then reboot, and the PC should recognize the drive, and reinstall it. Is it OEM drives?

Hi Fanton:
Thanks for the very quick reply

Yes i uninstalled and reinstalled the drive D & E and the drivers'
The OEM drivers are by M/S.
Drivers files:
1) C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\imapi.sys
2) " " " " \mdW2K.sys
3) " ' " ' \Pxhelp.sys
4) " " " " \redbook.sys
5) " " " " \storprop.dll

These driver are the same for the DVD drive and CD-rom drive.

The cd-rom or e drive is working a little sleep
The Dvd is not. This is what is doing when i put a dvd disc in the drive.
The green light blinks a little and stop, but when i open my computer
and click the D drive the DVD-RAM Drive (D:), it opens a blank page.
it is not telling me to please pue a blank disc in.

Hi i don't really know how to resolve your problem. But maybe your drive could be able to read the discs via Iso Buster if needed. :whistling:

Hi Od,
Yep Iso Buster is a software application and you can get it from here: http://www.google.co...buster download
You know I'm just experiencing some troubles with my new NEC drive.
My drive doesn't read any DVDs in windows explorer or Nero. But that drive can read the files from discs via Iso Buster anyway. So I thought if you have similar problem the Iso Buster could help.
If not I'm very sorry. :whistling:

Good luck.

Bye. :help:

I diconnected the IDE cable from the
Parallel ATA IDE connector,from the

the dvd-ram. Reinstalled them back, and
guess what? i got back mine cd-rom but not the
dvd ram. The ide controllers are still disable
on the Bios setup utility.Any more comments

there or should i replace the lde cable with
a new one before getting a new dvd. thanks
