I just bought a new Dell (intel 3.0 dual core, 1 gb DDR ram, 160gb SATA HD) and I went to reformat it so I can partition it. I went and installed all the programs and installed Norton Internet Security. And a couple days later I noticed that the system would go to the startup screen, bring up my desktop image, but take another minute or so for the windows toolbar to pop up. After this it takes another minute or so before I can access my hard drive. I'm hoping that you guys can help with this problem.

Well the Noton is a resorce hogger, like alot! although you have a fast mashine so maybe run AVG, Ad-aware, Windows defender.
And also it is possible that you need to defragment your hard drive.
Try these and let me know if it helps.
