I dont understand why after I install symantec norton systemworks 2006 by computer keeps turning off and rebooting by itself? Before I was getting a page fault error, fixed memory. but ever since I downloaded it :whistling: from symantec website it keeps doing the same thing. Please help. I am working in safe mode now. I even went as far as buying a new hard drive and reinstalling windows xp pro retail twice.

Click start, all programmes, start up, right click any entry for NSW and click delete, confirm

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit, select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm

Click start, run, type msconfig then press enter, click start up, remove any ticks for NSW, click apply and reboot

Tick do not start the configuration utility when windows loads

Check your firewall, anti virus and anti spyware programmes are running

Run the PC for a while then click start, all programmes, click NSW to run it

keith,
tried what you recommended and no dice.so i just uninstalled it completely(nsw). when I run a application my screen just goes black. What antivirus program do you recommend. one more question? is this how I should set up my new hd. maxtor ata /ide 200 gig

1. install drive and set as master ( put in slave later)
2. insert windows xp pro disk in drive and run setup.
3. let it create a new partition and format it for me.
4. install windows
4a. setup dsl connection and email
5. run windows update.
6. install all drivers that are needed because were not found in previous step.
7. reboot computer.
8. start installing programs and after each installation, restart to ensure smooth operation.

After 4 you should put the firewall and anti virus, scan before doing the windows updates

http://www.filehippo...ware/firewalls/

http://www.filehippo...ware/antivirus/

Zone Alarm Free and AVG Free work well together

You can run programmes, 1, 6, 7 and 8 from here

You uninstalled NSW and you still get a black screen

Have you checked the video card drivers, you could re-install or check for more recent ones

See if this gives you the name of the video card

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on the right for display / video adapter

Look at the manufacturer’s site for the suitable drivers for your Operating System

If you are unable to find them, please post the make and model here before you download anything

Please set a system restore point before you install anything

Video Adapter VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP (32 MB)

UniChrome IGP (km400,kn400)
via km 266 pro/km400/km400a chipset (taken from owners manual)

sir,
know if I click on the windows update icon under the start menu, my screen goes black. But if I like come to

this site first then goto microsofts home page it works fine! Why?you know what I forgot to tell you about,

that when I unplug the power on my slave hard drive it ask for a systems disk. So actually my computer

needs 2 hard drives to work ok right now. so would it be better if I just printed your instructions on how to

do a new install of windows and went on doing the rest like was said earlier? I get all updates from windows

or the respected manufactures site of whatever I am working with. What antispyware program do you recommend?

Thank you Keith, your help is deeply appreciated :whistling:
