Welcome,

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

You have to access a secure to access your hotmail. Try this, with all browser windows closed, Go to Start->Run and copy and paste each of the following, hitting ok after each:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Reboot, then try to access the sites that were giving you problems again.

Hi,

I have my hotmail accessable again. I went to the tools on Internet Explorer and went into Internet Options. I clcked on "Advanced" and then clicked on "Resore Defaults." And walla, I'm into my hotmail account again. Thanks for replying and giving suggestions for getting this situation corrected. I appreciate your quick response.

Hi Guys an Gals,

Following on from this thread I have a similar but slightly different problem. My kids pc is running XP Home, with i believe IE6. All is great except that when they open they're hotmail inbox's, there is they're email, but the links to each are dead! click all you like, it isnt going to open!

I thought it may be a Java prob, but having checked Sun Systems site, the pc shows up as java installed and working, with the little penguin happily walking round the screen.

I only built the pc two months ago, have checked the HIJack this report for nasties, and its fully upto date at the microsoft site.

Before i go off to the SFC /scannow and the run cut and paste repair for IE6, i thought id just check with you chaps (and Chapasis) that i'm even barking up the right tree

Ps Nice to see the sites going strong. Still the best use ive ever found for the www!

Regards

Welcome back Ian :D

It's been a while since I've logged into my Hotmail account, but I don't remember them using Java? <_<

Sounds like it may be a cookie problem. Have you tried restoring the defaults in Internet Explorer? (Tools -> Internet Options..., Advanced tab, restore defaults button)

Hi and thanks,

Right ive tried so far:-

1) restore defaults in IE
2) reset web settings in IE
3) security / medium / reset in IE
4) and the secure page entry reset (ie run, copy and paste each from your list etc)

Im really stuck with this one guys.....its a combination of the pc getting the better of me and the kids moaning.......i cant take it anymore!!!! :D :P :o <_<

Seriously though its got me baffled, any further prompts would be greatly appreciated folks.

There used to be a 'FIX INTERNET EXPLORER' button hidden in the sys info on Win98, isnt there one hidding in XP anywhere? or is it off to the SFC i go, hi ho hi ho?

Many Thanks in advance

scan /sfc is the recommended fix for IE 6.0, there's another fix here:
http://www.geekstogo...p?showtopic=251

If that doesn't work, maybe an XP repair installation <_<
