i don't know the technical terms to use for this problem, almost 80 years old & computer illiterate.cannot open a topic on website by clicking on it. a red circle with a red diagonal line through it appears. reduced screen size then bounces in & out for amoment. access is denied. can anyone describe in technical terms what the problem is that i am encountering & how to remedy it? would be grateful for any help. thank you.

Sorry, I can't tell too much from your explaination, but we can probably help (hey you got this far). 
Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.
Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

HI,
CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO AFTER SAVING LOG TO DESKTOP.WHEN I RETURN TO THE FORUM DON'T KNOW HOW TO TO REPLY TO ORIGINAL POST. know notepad is in my start up menu, but when opened there is nothing to highlight . also, don't know how to copy & paste. is there any hope for me or shall i just give up? thank you.

Well you just replied to your original post
No, you shouldn't give up. We are here to help in anyway possible.
When you open notepad through the start menu nothing will appear except for a blank white space. What you want to do is go to the Toolbar at the top and hit File and then select open.
If you do not know where you saved your log file then let's rescan using HiJack This.
After you run HiJack This, click Save Log button to create a file named Hijackthis.log. A dialog box will pop up. A the top of this dialogue box you will see a down arrow. When you click the down arrow, and list will appear with a director of your computer. Select Desktop and then save your log file.
Next, go back to notepad. Once in notepad, go back to File-> Open. You will see another window appear. Once again click the down arrow at the top of the window and select desktop. You will then see your log file there. Select it and it open.
You should see your file now in notepad. To Copy and Paste do the following:
Go to the toolbar at the top at click Edit then hit select all.
Next, go to Edit again but this time hit Copy.
Now come back to this post, hit [b]Add Reply[b] in the bottom right hand corner.
On the next page, paste your log in the large text area by holding down the CTR button and hitting V.

Unable to access Hijack log, underlined here. Says,''page not available.''
Tried to click live chat and the red circle with the red diagonal line through it came bouncing on and off of ''live chat.'' Last week, for one occassion only, a box came on and said ''your memory is full.'' Can this be the reason for ''the red circle with the red diagonal line'' through it, or is it something sneaky to make me think this is the case, when it is not ? I'm flummoxed . Sorry i can't get this procedure working properly, but have no training. Flying by the seat of my pants. Too stubborn to stop trying. However, should you consider this to be a hopeless undertaking, please feel free to advise me to discontinue my attempts. I appreciate all the help you have tried to give me. Thank you.
