compaq dvd-rom won't play any DVDs

Greetings-

Thanks for reading my post. The Compaq dvd-rom DVD 117 on my Compaq Presario 5626 LA will not play any DVDs. I'm running Windows XP SP 2. I have the latest drivers according to the HP/Compaq website. The drive is listed in the the properties dialog box. I can open the DVDs and all files are listed. The drive plays all cds.

Your support shall be truly appreciated (trite I know, but from the heart.)

I have a similar problem with my Compac Presario 700US - it plays all CD's and older DVD's. But it will not play newer DVD's. Help!!
