Diagnostic utility to run from a CD

Wondering what diagnostic utility any of you can recommend that will run off a CD as a troubleshooting aid. I wish Sandra would, but I'm thinking it must be actually installed to work. I'd appreciate your input on what any of you use.

Which sort of diagnostics in particular? What is the nature of why you need this? This information will help to direct you to the right utility, if there's any.
