The problem is that when they try to type in the search area of Google, or emails ets the arrow cahnge to th I, however when they try to type nothing happens. They are running windows ME. The mouse works, but they just cant type anything, anywhere.

Can anyone help.

Borrow or buy a new keyboard before investigating other causes. Power-down first, disconnect non-functioning kb, plug in new or borrowed one, re-boot. Budget keyboards especially are prone to a short lifespan. Your PC warns you when a kb isn't connected, but it's quite oblivious to a broken one -- no warning at all. it's possible but unlikely that the kb port is faulty instead. But keyboards aren't expensive so try a new one first.

If the keyboard doesn't fix the problem, you can try this:

Click on Start then Run..., now type in cmd in the dialog box.

Type the following in at the prompt:

REGSVR32 MSHTMLED.DLL

REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL

REGSVR32 /i MSHTML.DLL

Notice the spaces after regsvr32 and the /i

After each line, you'll get a popup saying that the file was registered.

Let me know if that works.
