I originally posted this over in Malware forum last week but after reading posts here I think it may belong here.

Last week both my Hibernate and Standby modes quit working, Hibernate goes through the BSOD and then restarts while Standby seems to shut down normally but restarts ~5 secs later.

Per advice from post by PI, I deactivated the automatic restarts and was able to copy down the STOP information:

When I go to Hibernate mode, I get a Blue STOP screen with the following STOP codes:

STOP: 0x0000008E(0xC0000005,0xBFA70A59,0xF7EBDF90,0x00000000)

-ati3duag.dll-address BFA70A59 base at BFA1A000, Datestamp 3f6123a6

-Beginning dump of physical dump

Any ideas on how to fix?

Best regards,

C'man

Problem resolved by installing new video drive, apparently my video driver was corrupted...

However I still have a problem because I tried to run a CheckDisk scan via the Command Prompt in Win XP Pro SP1; the command I tried to run was "chkdsk /r" but during boot cycle I get error message that the volume can't be accessed and Windows aborts the scan but continues to load.

Under NT, I could cancel this command by editing the BootExecute file in the System Registry but I can't find this file under Windows XP...
